An independent NIR service company.
We keep scanning-monochromator NIR instruments running, keep their calibrations honest, and keep the people operating them competent. We don't sell instruments, and nobody here earns a commission — so when we tell you what's wrong, that's just what's wrong.
An NIR result depends on three things.
A working instrument. A valid calibration. A competent lab. When a lab's numbers drift, the cause is roughly as likely to be the calibration or the operator as the hardware — so addressing any one of them in isolation tends to leave the problem in place. All three have to be working together, and staying that way.
Calico is organized around all three. It's the whole reason the company exists, and it governs everything from how we structure our services to how we answer the phone.
Is the harware sound?
The Instrument
Installation, maintenance, and monitoring — so degradation is caught before it shows up in your results.
Do the numbers mean anything?
The Calibration
Development, validation, and certification — so a confidently reported number is also a correct one.
Do the people know what they're doing?
The Lab
Training and remote support — so sample prep and technique don't quietly become the source of error.
Impartial because of how we're built, not because we say so.
We don't sell instruments. We don't take commissions, referral fees, or a cut of anyone's hardware sales. There's no product we're quietly trying to move, so there's nothing bending our advice.
That structure is what lets us do the most valuable thing an advisor can do: tell you when you don't need something. If the answer for your lab is to run what you have until it stops, or that a problem isn't worth fixing, we'll say so — and we lose nothing by saying it.
